Psshh, yeah right. My solution, finally built my first PC and got an iRacing account! You can't keep me from getting behind the wheel with your fancy medical degree and professional assessment of my medical condition, Mr. Medical Man.

Kinja'd!!!

I love this game. :)

I strongly advise you read what I wrote about simracing and the part about FOV ;)

Lol thanks. Went with the Logitech G27. It's my first build, I got my tax return, and figured I'd build a PC that won't be obsolete for quite awhile. haha

Great write up! I'm still fine tuning everything, and know I need to adjust the view. lol I had just set everything up and was too excited to wait any longer to get out on the track. haha Will be adding two more monitors in the next month or so as well. Thanks!

That's how I justify spending several grand on my rig! Not a tax return, janitor money/grad money but same mantra. Don't wanna feel obsolete for a lil while

Hope you're recovering well buddy!! Here in post op knee surgery land...things aren't bad. It no longer hurts to change gears, so that's a bonus. I also ditched crutches and now use a cane for walking.

I spent a little over $1,700 including the G27, so like $1,450 on the actual PC. Running an MSI GTX770, i5 4670k, an ASUS Z87-A mobo, and Windows 8 is on a SSD w/ a 1TB HDD for regular storage. This thing is fast too, and there's always the option to add another graphics card if need be. haha I went with a cheap Acer monitor, just wanted something 1080p that would get the job done.

Nice! Glad to hear you're getting better. Yeah, luckily I don't have any pain shifting really. (Well not in iRacing anyways, obviously haven't tried in real life haha) It actually helps, because my muscles are sore from not being used much in the past few weeks and it makes me stretch my legs a little. I'm switching off my pain meds to just Tylenol, but I will still be on crutches for another 8 weeks. :( Oh well. haha If anyone wants to add me on iRacing just search my full name Christopher Fairbanks, pretty sure I'm the only one lol. If not my livery colors are black, teal, and yellow.

That's a fantastic rig! What do you drive out of curiosity?

In real life? An '05 4Runner. I'm gonna be getting rid of it this summer because it's RWD (recently moved from AZ to IL), and the RWD doesn't do super well in the snow. Makes the drives to work fun, every morning feels like a rally stage lol. Gonna end up getting something 4x4, AWD, or FWD obviously, most likely just get another mid-size SUV or pickup again. I do a lot of outdoors stuff, like kayak fishing too, so the versatility and off-road capabilities are nice. Hoping to start building a project car for rallycross, drifting, or maybe Spec Miata within the next couple years. Although I'd love to get into Formula Vee if I can afford it lol

I went from a 96 Mitsu Montero to a late model wrx hatch that now has plenty of go fast goodies.

My jalop brother I understand your pain more than anyone. It was not a femur that took my wings, but epilepsy. I will be seizure free for a year next month and once again I'll be able to pilot my silver 420 lbs/ft turbo wagon. Stay strong

The best thing about crutches is people are usually really nice to you when you're on them, a lot of people go out of their way to help. The worst thing is you can't carry anything like a coffee.

Very nice! Glad to hear you're better. Yeah, an '08 or newer Scoob is on the consideration list too.

They're downright hilariously easy to drive in the snow. Point and shoot.

They drink gas, premium at that

They have a very nice ride, not bumpy at all. Very smooth

Tons of low mid torque, with a hilarious boost threshold.

The torque band and AWD makes it feel 2x faster than it is

Those are my main points on my car

The only thing is be aware that on a single-monitor setup, it can be *very* awkward only seeing a portion of the road. My setup dictates a 35-degree FOV, yet I run with a 55-degree setting purely so I can see a little more into corners. The real solution is to run a triple-monitor setup, however on the Acer monitor you have (I have the same style in 21.5") there are no Vesa mount holes, so it's much harder to assemble a triple-monitor setup.

Also, to go with Flavlen's article, watch this video by Emptybox, it talks about a LOT of FOV stuff and is what I went off for my setup. Also here is a guide for what FOV to set your system at as a function of monitor size and distance away from monitor.
